GUNDA provided traffic engineering analysis services for the FM 518 corridor from SH 288 to SH 146. Services included traffic data collection, safety studies, traffic analysis, short-term improvements, long-term improvements and public presentations.
FM 518 is a 25 mile facility that runs generally east-west from SH 288 in Brazoria County to SH 146 in Galveston County traversing 3 Counties and 4 Cities. FM 518 has been experiencing tremendous growth over fast few years resulting in traffic congestion and safety issues. The traffic engineering scope for this project included development of a Traffic Management Plan to improve traffic operations and access management along the corridor. Services included data collection, traffic engineering analysis, accident investigations, traffic operations review, public presentations, stakeholder meetings, steering committee workshops and study report containing recommended improvements and implementation schedules. The traffic signal operation model Synchro was used to analyze existing operations and provide solutions to mitigate traffic congestion.
